Cool Cats Creative Program

A girl dressed in black with a cat tail and ears poses with one hand on her knee and the other extended outward, standing in front of a purple paint splash background.

Our youngest dancers begin their journey in our beloved Cool Cats Creative Program, a nurturing introduction to kids dance classes.

In this program, our goal is to provide a safe, joyful space where young dancers can explore:

  • Basic dance technique

  • Foundational dance terminology

  • Age‑appropriate dance etiquette

  • Musicality and rhythmic awareness

  • Creative expression

  • Confidence and stage readiness

Our Cool Cats are grouped by age and years of experience, ensuring each dancer learns in a small, supportive class with peers at a similar stage in their dance journey. They are gifted a set of cat ears (based on their specific cat group) and are encouraged to wear their ears proudly to class! We want every Cool Cat to experience the fun of dance while developing the skills and passion that will carry them into their next level of training. By the end of the season, our young dancers proudly shine on stage — often for the very first time.

  • Our goals for all our Cool Cat classes at Dansations are to provide a safe space for young dancers to learn basic dance techniques, basic dance terminology, dance etiquette, rhythmic qualities, expression, and confidence. Dancers Ages 3-6 are offered 1-hour combo classes divided between two genres of dance (ballet/tap, jazz/tap, etc). Classes are split based on age and dance level (Bobcats, Cheetahs, Panthers and Leopards) and given a pair of cat ears that they can wear proudly to class!

  • Our goals for all our Cool Cat classes at Dansations are to provide a safe space for young dancers to learn basic dance techniques, basic dance terminology, dance etiquette, rhythmic qualities, expression, and confidence. Dancers Ages 7-8 are offered 45-minute classes in a variety of genres (from ballet and tap to hip hop, jazz and acro). Classes are divided based on age and dance level (Cougars, Lions, Tigers, Leopards and Jaguars) and given a pair of cat ears that they can wear proudly to class! “Graduating” Cool Cats (dancers age 8) are invited in the spring to participate in a special graduation dance to celebrate the conclusion of Cool Cats program.

  • Ballet classes consist of barre exercises, traveling steps and combinations of ballet technique. Ballet dancers work from a turned-out position. It teaches discipline, grace and strength. And it's fun! Required attire includes black leotards, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and hair secured in a bun.

  • Tap is a rhythmic and percussive style of dance where dancers wear shoes with metal taps on their soles to create audible beats against the floor. These classes focus on musicality, coordination, and technique, covering steps like shuffles and riffs. Dancers will need to make sure the teacher can see the whole foot and ankle during class, so they can wear tights, leggings or shorts or capris with any color leotard. They will be increasing their mastery or different rhythms and tap terminology.

  • Our Jacksonville dance studio features jazz classes which is an energetic and expressive dance class that combines various dance techniques, focusing on rhythm, coordination and flexibility. This Jazz dance class requires a leotard and tights and tan jazz shoes. Jazz technique is great for posture, coordination and confidence! Dancers will learn parallel positions and exert lots of energy!

  • Musical theater classes are dance based classes that may also include singing and acting. The dancers will learn about different Broadway musicals and learn different Broadway dance styles. Dancers will need black jazz shoes, leggings or tights any color and any color leotard.

  • Contemporary dance is a style that focuses on the freedom of expression. Dancers will use ballet technique to learn more modern based movements (parallel positions). They will build a fluidity to their movement while building core strength and working on expression and quality of movements.

  • Hip hop classes are high-energy, fast-paced classes focusing on street dance styles, including breaking, locking and popping. This class emphasizes developing rhythm, coordination, and individual style through choreography and freestyle. Suitable for all levels, these classes typically include warm-ups, technical isolations, and a breakdown of the latest moves. Appropriate music will be played in all hip hop classes.

  • Acro dance classes fuse classical dance technique with floor acrobatic elements, focusing on strength, flexibility, balance and tumbling. Dancers learn skills like splits, walkovers, back handsprings, and aerials, often incorporating them into routines. Classes emphasize proper technique to safely transition between dance and athletic skills.
